Electric Shadows
The dark film spiraled through the brain in the platter, over the loose, squeaking pulleys and into the phantom geyser of light, painting electric shadows on the screen of the 98-seater auditorium. The projectionist stepped forward in trepidation, reaching out to it like a lifeline, wondering who had started the film when all of the movies had been out for thirty minutes.

The Beasts
The air's, icy breath cascades down the side of the rocky face, biting the edges of my cheeks and tearing at my ears. My hands, even gloved, can barely move, and my legs stiffen under the weight of the frigid atmosphere. The lungs, heaving in my chest, are close to popping under the pressure. I cannot breathe.

The Man in the Mirror and His Music
The man in the mirror keeps looking at me. He speaks to me and knows what will break me. He picks away at me like I will crumble. Sometimes he transcends the mirror and sits beside me on the couch or holds a knife to my face, whispering that I should let him take over or kill myself now. When we were little we used to toss a baseball back and forth. Or we would take turns scoring goals in soccer. My imaginary friend looked just like me. I grew up, and he became less imaginary and far more destructive.
