Welcome to April, a month filled with study sessions, weed jokes, high school dances, and rain. Or, at least, it should be full of rain. Unfortunately, the weather (at least where I live) seems to disagree. There's been more snow here than rain, and temperatures are dancing from the 70s one day, back down to the 30s the next.

Album Interludes You Need to Listen To
I have a brother trying to break into the music industry. He spends hours and hours streaming, searching, and creating pieces every day. When we used to live together, he would burst in my room at three or four in morning to show me his latest favorite album or song. Years and years of him exposing me to obscure and well-known artists have led me to the conclusion that I really, fucking, love interludes. I'm a sap for the short, emotional and sometimes odd songs that break up or connect an album. While some of these interludes are more well-known than others, all of these songs are worth a serious listen.

Most people have a very specific feel to them. They look 80s, 60s, or (god forbid) early 2000s. But some of us aren't as sure where we belong. I wish we had a climbing tree. Our house is up in the mountains and there’s forest all around, but no trees for climbing. They are too young. Too thin. It’s days like this, when the shouting begins, that I would climb the grand maple in the old front yard and pretend I was hiding behind enemy lines.

Standing on the beach at night feels new in the same way that rereading a book from your childhood feels new. It’s something strange and familiar and thrilling. You aren’t quite sure where you are, but for once it doesn’t matter. The ocean has no concept of time or its position in the universe. It doesn’t care where it’s waves crash; where it collides with the earth.

Momentary Soulmates
I should have gotten his name that day, by the creek bed. Birds had been whistling in the trees above and I felt alive, alive, alive. The grass was an alarming shade of chartreuse and the water below me matched the sky. Early summer had that effect on me—somehow it transformed the grey world into one choking with brilliant color. Between the songbirds and the few insects zipping around, I felt alone. Blissfully alone, engrossed in the words of Henry David Thoreau.
