Stars Like Shattered Diamonds
Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say. That is, if somehow you managed to step out into the dark nothing of outer space and compel your vocal cords to produce a scream, that scream would be instantly extinguished. Without matter to carry the vibrations of your voice, the sound would go nowhere, leaving even less of a trace than that little moribund redness that lingers on a candle after you have blown it out. In short, the void is deaf.

Sanctity Lost
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. But it would certainly have seemed that way to almost anyone. The dragons were born second only to the primal deities, and of course to the Creator God. They were the firstborn children of Nature, and as such took on certain qualities of her. There was Water and Wind, Earth and Fire, Summer and Winter, Light and Dark. From these original eight, the lesser dragons were born, but it was only these primal ones who were recognized by humans as worthy gods.

The Fall of the Undying
There weren’t always dragons in the Valley. That simple fact represented the complete failure of the Elder’s promises. From his earliest memories, Seran could recall the calm teachings of the Elder. She would shift in her humble wooden chair and smile slightly, wrinkles crowning her face with an air of dignity and authority. Seran and all his young peers would sit cross-legged, forming a semicircle in front of her as she told tales of struggles past. She spoke of days when fear was more common than hope. She spoke of a world collapsing on itself, civilizations tumbling down as darkness covered the land. But in spite of everything, the Valley remained. The humble people of the Elkoi and the divine race of dragons stayed safe in this peaceful vale, a sole beacon in a dark world. There had always been dragons in the Valley, the Elder said, and there always would be. They were a sacred and deathless race, forever protectors of this land.

i used to think i could fly
Up-and-coming pop artist Tate McRae released her debut album i used to think i could fly this past Friday, a monumental step for someone who not so long ago was uploading YouTube videos her playing made-up songs on her electric keyboard. It is exciting to think of the potential that her future career holds and of the ways in which her sound and style will evolve. With so much already accomplished at age 18, we can only speculate about what great things she has yet to do.
