The five minute workout
The motivation problem I've gotten people asking me over the years of what kind of workout they should do, and they all say they have the same problem, a lack of motivation. I believe I first heard the idea that motivation is an emotion from Jocko Willink, and I completely agree. Motivation is an emotion. There are times when motivation is high and times when it is low. Motivation is liquid. That is the case for all of us. If I only worked out when I felt like it, I would be weak and out of shape. Discipline is a far better attribute to strive for than motivation. Discipline will drive you to do something even when you don't feel like it.

What if we treated everyday like it were Christmas
I’m writing this one on December 26th, 2020. I’ve had this thought I can’t shake the last few days; what if instead of having Christmas one day per year we instead did the opposite? And no, I’m not suggesting we buy gifts every day. I am suggesting as a society, we all agreed every day we would spread joy, be kind to each other, agreed to disagree on our differences and celebrated our commonalities as human beings, and decided intentionally we would have only one day a year where we didn’t? Kind of like the purge. What would happen?

How to Discover and Achieve What you Want in Life
New year’s resolutions are lame Don’t wait until Jan 1st to implement positive changes to your life. Start now. Start today. If it’s really something that will improve your life you owe it to yourself to get after it immediately to reap the benefits. If it’s a diet, start it today. But what if I blow it during the holidays? then you blow it. Don’t judge yourself, just start again the next day. If you started now versus Jan 1st, you get 3 weeks of being closer to your goal. Don’t put off something that’s good for you because of the holidays. There are always going to be things that cause you to slip or fall off a plan. That’s ok, what matters is getting back on track when you get off. Rant over. Let’s get to the meat and potatoes.

The Reason I Started a Newsletter about Self-Improvement
Temp check We’re at a unique time in history. The world is changing, and these are uncertain times. I don’t know that I’ve ever seen society more divided, angry, and fearful. While the rest of the world was losing their minds from Covid and political hysteria, I can honestly say 2020 has been one of the best years of my life. I achieved a lot this year and I put in place daily habits that I know are going to help me achieve more in the future. The world is too focused on problems. According to the centers for disease control and prevention, suicide rates rose between 1997 and 2017 to heights not seen since World War II. Suicide rates are rising with both Men and Women from all ethnic groups. But the most disturbing thing to me is the rate of suicide is rising between people ages 15-34. And all this is before the pandemic.
