More Photos https://rmonetti.blogspot.com/2023/05/somers-sb-v-jj.html On Wednesday May 17, 24th seeded John Jay traveled to Somers to face number10, and there was no shortage of excitement. The lead went back and forth, and John Jay was still threatening in the seventh. But a final score that didn’t go the Wolves way was not the final tally, according to Adrionna Palmiero, who stepped in while Steve DelMoro was away with the arrival of his first child.

Flag Football Team Moves into Semis with Win over Ossining
On Thursday May 18, the Flag Football team took on Ossining in the first round of the sectionals. A new sport for most of the girls, the team has learned the game, and Emma DeMuro definitely paid lip service to the most important part. “If you don’t block, you can’t throw and you can’t pass,” said the center. But more than words, her team was quick to follow the lineman’s lead, and the yards immediately started to pile up on a very successful day.

Mahopac on Losing End of Thriller in Rye
On Friday May 5, Mahopac headed south to Rye, and Ava Lichtenberger and Erin Ball treated both fan bases to an exciting pitcher’s duel. At least they did for five innings. Then the bats took over, and a thrilling back and forth went in search of a hero. Both sides had an ample supply. But someone had to sound the trumpet, and the other side would have to succumb to the violins.

Hot Hen Hud Goalie is too Much for John Jay in Triple OT Loss
John Jay went to Hen Hud on Tuesday May 9 and played their game. The Wolves hit their passes, made the plays on defense and put the shots on goal. But the girls ran into a goalie who didn’t care about any of that, and when the game finally ended, John Jay knew exactly how much.

John Jay Takes Another Big Game Versus Somers
In the last two years, John Jay has fought out victories over Somers in the Section finals and the history had the Wolves honed in on Wednesday, May 3 at Contest Field. “A big game,” said Annabel Brennan, “we definitely wanted to show up.” Somers did strut in first, though. But the early 2-0 Tusker lead wasn’t as important who was the last to leave.

John Jay Comes up Short in 8-5 Loss to Yorktown
Despite their 3-9 start, Yorktown didn’t wait long to get going at Contest Field. The Huskers came out swinging and jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Still, John Jay wasn’t put off by the early deficit and answered with a run in the second. But Yorktown kept hitting, and while the Wolves continued to battle back, the home team just could not get over the top.

John Jay Track is Happy to be Off and Running Again
On Wednesday April 12, John Jay got into the blocks, and in their first meet at home, defeated Pelham by a score of 167-126. But for Sloan Wasserman, the matchup with Pelham was more like a back to back. She lined up for the 800 meter, and almost immediately after crossing the finish line, she was off on the 3K. “I need more time,” she admitted, “just five minutes, I could have done much better.” Her opponents, on the other hand, still only saw a purple blur and were probably left wondering how much better could this runner be.

On Friday April 22, Somers High School hosted their second annual Battle of the Bands. Before about 50 students, parents and teachers, Chopped Liver won the two band competition. But the accolade wasn’t as important as the kinetics to lead singer and guitarist Gordon Mescain-Archer.

John Jay Softball Picks Each other up in Comeback Victory over North Salem
On Friday April 27, John Jay took to AP Farms Field and the overcast skies turned out to forecast a pretty bad start. A few errors, some base running mistakes and at least one questionable call, and the girls fell behind 6-0 to North Salem. But Laney Daly kept her head up because the chance for a comeback was easy to calculate. “It only takes one person to lift everyone up," she boasted, and the shortstop only had to look to first base to be proven right.

Mahopac Falls 6-2 to Yorktown
On Saturday afternoon April 22, Mahopac hosted the Yorktown Huskers at the high school, and after waiting 45 minutes for the umpires to arrive, the teams were finally able to get down to the business of baseball. A cold, windy affair, Mahopac seemed as though they were going to weather the difficult day with a 2-1 lead after four full innings. But the top off the fifth would prove the Indians ultimate undoing.

Part XIX : It Could Only Happen in Plattsburgh or NYC
No Pity at the Cave It was May, 1990 and the era at The Cave was coming to an end. My fault, I had lost my mind. For real, I lucked into a mental illness that completely unraveled my life. Losing my job was nowhere near the half of it, and since I was leaving, there was no desire to go in search of a replacement.

Mahopac Moves to 1-2 with 13-6 Victory over Haldane
Click for Action Shots for Purchase On Thursday April 6, the boys lacrosse team got on the bus, traveled to Haldane High School and didn’t necessarily make the best of the 10AM start. “We’re not used to it,” said Ryan Geoghegan, and the early going provided the proof. But just because the Indians failed to get the initial wake up call, doesn’t mean the team slept through the snooze button too.
