Shadow Valley
There were not always dragons in the valley, Mithais said this to himself as the shadow of a one soared over head. The mythical beast of lore had returned however no one could tell from where they had come from. Mathias looked our across the rocky terrain as the rest of his group caught up. Standing tall he looked to the civilians that were in his charge, in the back of his head he knew that some would not return, but to keep their spirits up he did not dwell on these thoughts. Mithais stood an impressive 6ft tall, long golden hair tied in a tight braid down his back, bright green eyes that picked up every movement from the sky to the slight breeze that blew the tattered brush in the valley they were traversing, wearing hardened leather armor from the shoulders down to his boots, studded with iron, he chose this for the movability which would come in the very near future, weapon of choice long sword which he kept strapped to his back. As the civilians finally caught up to him, some out of breath others tired and dirty from their days headed to this infernal place, he chuckled a little and asked himself why he took this job in the first place. The out of breath traveler looked up as the dragon floated lazily through the air, in awe he let out a tired cheer. "Well at least we know we are headed in the right direction." Mithais shrugged in indifference his job was to get them there, their task was to determine if at all where the dragons came from and why they were here. Stories of old say that some could speak hording massive amounts of treasure for no reason other than they like things that are shiny. Whether or not they will find one that they can communicate with was still to be determined. "We need to keep moving, the Valley is not a safe place, even more so now than before, get your people up here we will rest for a few and then continue. We must get to the base of that mountain which is the base of this hill we are currently standing on which is where the valley floor begins. From there we can start a base camp where we will have more of you people following in a few days. Mithais said all of this as he pointed and moved his hand to show the slope of the hill they were on and where they were headed to. He could see the man before him did not realize it was going to take all of this to get there, the light dimmed a little in his eyes. Mithais put a hand on his shoulder to try and reassure him, "We will get there, I promise you that, what is your name?" the man spoke out the name Bartholomew, Mithais rolled his eyes of course this would be this dirt diggers name, "Well Barty, sit and rest I'll trek a little ahead and see if we can find a better path." Mithais hadn't gone more than 100 feet down the path when it seemed the heavens opened up, more than the normal or what is considered normal for dragons being in the valley started dropping from the sky, they swooped in low and then riding the currents back up the valley sides to disappear on the other side, they all seemed to be heading that one direction, but there were so many of them 100's of dragons seemed to materialize out of the cloudy sky dropping behind the valley walls. He quickly turned but as he did, an adolescent dragon dropped to the ground between him and his group. Slowly Mithais spread his feet and slowly he reached up to place a hand on his sword. The red and gold dragon in front of him could not be more than a few days old but was still as big as a horse. Turning its head to the side, the yellow eyes seemed to dance over him trying to determine if he was food or not. Saliva dropped from the animals mouth has it opened his mouth to reveal rows of bright white razor-sharp teeth. Mithais slowly drew his sword preparing for a fight, Dragon before him lowered its head keep its eyes on him and growled low in its throat. Shuffling it is feet and spreading his wings wide he dove at Mithais.
