Art for our sake: seven
This stunning work by Ukranian artist Maria Prymachenko (1908-1997) is one of many that are endangered as a consequence of the Russian invasion of the Ukraine and continued attacks on that beleaguered country. the Ivankiv museum that housed many of Prymachenko's works was destroyed by fire following a (claimed) Russian attack As ArchiReader explains, this was not just an attack against the museum but an attack on Ukrainian culture and the Ukrainian people.

Marion Patrick: Dog's Head
Marion Patrick is an artist you probably never heard of. Unless you have visited the Bethlem Museum of the Mind in Beckenham, a London suburb bordering Kent to the south east of England, you are unlikely to have seen her work. Patrick was a one-time resident at the Bethlem Royal Hospital, set in expansive leafy grounds just outside of the town.

Art for our sake: six
A little break since edition five. Sorry 'bout that but been doing some art appreciation at Tate Modern, Tate Britain, and the Mall Gallery among others. Always so much to see in London and never enough time to see it all. At Tate Modern I met some lovely people too, from the UK, Europe and around the world, many from various US states. One family were visiting London from Washington D.C., reminding me of a wonderful but brief visit to the National Gallery Of Art some 30 years ago. There I also had a chance to take a look around the National Museum of Women in the Arts, then still in its early days. The featured image is of a portrait by the American impressionist Lilla Cabot Perry. A picture that is forever etched in my memory as I bought a poster copy which kept me company on the wall of my home business office for a number of years.

For my fifth venture into the wonderous world depicted by the wonderful creators submitting their stories to the Vocal Art community, I have included some embedded links. Please let me know what you think. Is it too much or does it help give a useful preview of the works reviewed?

Lichtenstein: Whaam!
Roy Lichtenstein, Whaam! is a work of art that defines an era. Not just that period of art history known as 'pop art', but an era in the history of the world. To me this work, more than any other that I can think of, defines the whole 20th century. Encompassing as it does, the historical evolution of the era of mass production, the era of mass destruction through total war, and the birth of modern mass media.

Art for our sake: four. Top Story - August 2023.
I don't generally go for art history or philosophy of art but an interesting discussion of how art and life reflect each other is to be found in Dana Stewart's Art is Life or Life is Art? The narrative begins with the Oscar Wilde quote: "Life imitates art far more than art imitates life." Dana's article explores the ever-developing relationship between art and life from the ancient, classical, renaissance and modern eras.

Art for our sake: Three
We have just seen some fabulous stories honored in the Painted Prose Challenge and let's hope the momentum will continue. Congratulations to the deserving winners of the challenge and well done, again, to Vocal for launching the Art community. I really enjoyed writing and submitting my own art-inspired entries and have included some links at the end of this article if anyone would like to take a look.

Art for our sake. Top Story - July 2023.
Congratulations and well done to the Vocal team for launching the new Art community "where words and visual expression intertwine". I haven't yet had a chance to read through all of the great articles on offer but here are a few that caught my attention. If there is any interest, I will post some more reviews of fellow contributors' work sometime soon.
