THE 10 SCARIEST HORROR MOVIES EVER
If you were poking around RT a week and a half or so ago, you might have come across a little poll we were taking on the site to try and determine the Scariest Movie Ever. Based on other lists and suggestions from the RT staff, we pulled together 40 of the scariest movies ever made and asked you to vote for the one that terrified you the most. As it happens, a British broadband service comparison website decided to conduct a science experiment to determine the same thing, and their results were… surprising, to say the least. Did Rotten Tomatoes readers agree with the findings? Read on to find out what our fans determined were the 10 Scariest Horror Movies Ever.

Year in Review: 10 Best Horror Movies of 2020
You could argue that we didn’t necessarily need horror movies this year — there was an abundance of real-life terror to contend with, from a pandemic with no immediate end in sight to the waking nightmare that was our presidential election. What’s scarier than a day in the life of Trump’s America circa 2020? What so many of needed, really, was something cathartic, and gave us a space to project our fears rather than, say, endlessly doomscrolling through Twitter feeds or Covid statistics. None of the exemplary scary movies on this list were directly about what was happening outside our stuck-in-lockdown doors. But more importantly, none of them ignored the real world, either, and even the most escapist film in this lineup somehow managed to add its voice to much bigger conversation about gender and genre. Here are our picks for the best horror flicks of the year — from ghost stories to gross-out slasher flicks, indigenous zombies to invisible men.

Essential Revenge Movies Best Served Cold
I Saw the Devil also stars Oldboy’s Choi Min-sik, but this time around he plays a straightforward, villainous serial killer named Jang Kyung-chul. Don’t worry, that’s not a spoiler, as it’s an important part of the movie’s set up in the first act. Choi stars opposite Lee Byung-hun as Kim Soo-hyun, a National Intelligence Service agent (basically Korea’s CIA) who starts down a dark path for revenge after his fiancée is murdered by, you guessed it, Kyung-chul. While Soo-hyun quickly finds out that Kyung-chul is responsible and as an NIS agent has the ability to arrest him, he decides instead to turn the tables on the killer, dipping into the never-ending well of Kyung-chul’s depravity and giving him a taste of his own medicine. The two men then play a twisted game of cat and mouse, as Soo-hyun’s drive for vengeance leaves him on the precipice of becoming as evil as the man he’s after. Like the previously mentioned film Oldboy, I Saw the Devil is also a very dark, very violent movie, but it’s also a compelling depiction of Soo-hyun’s desperate rage and grief in an appropriately visceral experience.

1) Fear Street Part One: 1994 This R-rated slasher took place from Scream in Shadyville. Where individuals decades ago are in the habit of perpetrating brutal assassinations. It is a rumor that this was all about a witch's curse dated back to the 1960s and a gang of teens finds themselves targeting a whole host of masked assassins in the 1994 film to find out what's happening and how to live. The plot focuses on a gay relationship that distinguishes this from many of the other slashers. Comedic relief is enough to prevent this from being stuck in like a horrific self-grave flick.
