Destiny pushed him like a bus driver, up the main entrance to the Civic Center, past the entrance table where he found the lights and a loot bag and proceeded to his publisher's booth in the back corner. There it was: a fictional anthology, brightly colored but creeping to draw his attention. He picked up a copy to look at, saw his name on the cover, a third from the top, and felt an increase in satisfaction. His first sale as a writer.

A mighty warrior saved us at the last minute. That sounds cliche, but it's true. My father was about to lose his job. My mother was crying about how she was going to pay the mortgage. We live on cash checks, spend a bit on Saturdays eating at a butcher shop, and then have to eat rice and beans or eggs and toast for the last two days before the next check is made.

William Whipple - One of America's Founding Fathers
Windsor Moffat, for his father-in-law Williams, was another signer. Whipple, one of three men from New Hampshire who signed the famous document (the others were Josiah Bartlett and Matthew Thornton), had no direct descendants.
