OpenAI was founded in December 2015 by Elon Musk, Sam Altman, Greg Brockman, Ilya Sutskever, John Schulman, and Wojciech Zaremba, among others. It initially started as a for-profit organization with the mission of developing artificial general intelligence (AGI) for the benefit of all of humanity.
