Sugar Cookies - Changing the World
Admiral William H. McRaven's quote, "If you want to change the world, get over being a sugar cookie and keep moving forward," is a powerful reminder that we can't let setbacks and failures stop us from achieving our goals. Sugar cookies are soft and delicate, and they can easily be broken. But you must be strong and resilient to make a difference in the world. It would help if you were willing to keep going, even when things are tough.

Today's Don't Ask, Don't Tell
In 2011, "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" came to an end allowing the country to close the book on a discriminatory practice that forced men and women who were committed to serving their Nation's military to live in silence. Under this policy, gay people who wanted to join the military would no longer be forced to lie about their sexual orientation. However, they were not permitted to disclose their sexuality. Promoted as a bargain between the Clinton Administration, military leadership, and Congress, "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" (DADT) was met with outrage from many LGBT advocates. Who felt the new policy was simply a new version of the past bans on LGBT individuals in the military. Many of DADT's opponents believed this policy involved marginal progress and was considered a step back from the complete integration of LGBT service members.

The Garden in My Backyard
My parents put the home I grew up in on the market yesterday. Looking through the listing pictures, I saw a house full of memories but with empty rooms, empty halls, empty stairs, and empty stools. But not all of it looked different. While it, too, was empty, the garden in my backyard was still there. Seeing a picture of this garden reminded me of a Chinese Proverb,
