High school English teacher who enjoys writing as a hobby. I do hope to get published one day, but for now I'm just having fun and hoping to learn some new tricks.

Moral Development and Self-Esteem in Schools
Abstract Some have suggested that schools’ concern for children’s moral development and self-esteem is misplaced and that the school’s business is to teach knowledge and cognitive skills. While content knowledge is essential for passing standard state exams, content knowledge alone does not make a well-rounded and empathic adult. This level of instruction has been part of the school environment since the dame schools of Puritan America and the Latin Grammar schools when such skills were taught in a class young men received as a grade. While such courses may no longer be available, children still spend most of their lives under the care of educators and within the school environment. While a school may only be one building, it is a micro-community meant to represent the whole of the rest of the world. Students need to be morally aware and have the self-resilience and confidence to face the world after graduation. Because of this, the teachers and school administration must be able to develop some level of these skills while they have their students.

Of a Child and a Dragon
The forest’s silence is a beauty one cannot comprehend with words. It is an experience understood only by the denizens who reside in its tranquility. Few things disturb the melody of the stream as it rushes round the bends- over rock and root, carrying little fish and leaves in the burbling waters. Or the hushed chorus of leaves dancing in the breeze. Bugling elks and howling wolves add their solo to the masterpiece of the forest.

I played a game of hide and seek at camp
“The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window.” That’s how these stories start, isn’t it? A spooky but otherwise ordinary place set out in some equally creepy forest. Usually, no one goes there because the owners have abandoned it. It’s falling apart. People think it’s haunted. And then one night, someone goes to check it out, and there’s something off about it- a candle in the window, for example. Typical for a scary campfire story. And they always have some air of uncertainty around them because they sound fake. Still, that slight hint of possibility makes it almost plausible. You know what I mean?

The Valley of Dragons
There weren't always dragons in the Valley. It used to be a safe place where people raised their sheep, plowed their fields, and lived long and happy lives with their families without a care in the world. There was no fear of winged monstrosities blocking out the sun and scorching the fields. People didn't think about sending their sons to fight creatures that embodied the Devil himself—or surrendering their hard-earned wealth to the sky tyrants.

12:07 a.m. The moon illuminated an empty cliff. A sedan sat behind the metal barrier overlooking an ocean of dark green and black. The gentle breeze stirred the trees, sending a hush through the quiet scenery. Hundreds of feet below, darkness enveloped the forest floor; peaceful oblivion hidden away from the eye of God.
