They’d been excited. Who wouldn’t be? It wasn’t everyday that they were able to rent a small country house for six whole weeks, all to themselves for the summer. It’d costed them all a small fortune, but the four friends were sure that it would all be worth it.

Long ago, there’d once been a miller’s son. He’d been told by his father to remain at the house and to take care of his younger sister while his mother rested and recovered from illness. The son, named John, agreed, bidding his father farewell as he went down to his workplace in the nearby mill.

In the Mirror
The mirror showed a reflection that wasn’t my own. I don’t think it always did this, but in all honesty, I can’t even recall how I’d gotten this mirror in the first place. I didn’t always have it, I know that much. I think I’d remember owning such an ornate looking mirror, but... I don’t know.

Poachers' bane
There came a loud crash, followed by a splash, shaking the very night around them. All the animals within the reserve were startled awake, looking frantically for a source to the noise. When no immediate source was discernible, one by one they went back to sleep. It was probably nothing.
