Traditional Publishing vs Self-Publishing

When an author makes a formal agreement with a publisher to publish a set number of books under its imprint, it is known as a "book deal." The publisher sends you a contract outlining how they plan to market your work, the royalty rate they'll pay, the amount of advance they'll offer you, and their terms and conditions. Self-publishing is unrelated since we arrange a book contract between traditional publishers and writers.
