The Sands of Wadi Rum
Mom was waiting. Patiently for me. Sitting on a seat with her luggage in arrivals at Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA). Her plane arrived before mine. She had been there for hours. An earlier flight was more economical. And so there she would be hanging out at an airport in Jordan, waiting in faith for her daughter’s safe and timely arrival.

A dust-filled fall day. Was it a misalignment from the universe, as rays of sun shone brilliantly through tree branches. A mound of red, yellow, and burnt-orange was swept under the porch steps. A few dry leaves remained lingering on the ground. A few were crushed under the weight of a metal rake.

Soup of the day. Andy Warhol's thirty-two cans of Cambell's soup were originally displayed in 1962. It is an artisanal simulation of mass production at its best in a consumer world. Seen as a rip-off of known objects and products. It's just soup in a can after all. Nothing else.

The trees swayed around the edge of a pond. waterlilies pink, and white stood picture perfect amidst the dark dredges of water, circled around by floating green leaves. A leap to the edge. A youngster learning the prowess of his springing frolics. As he jumped, a voice echoed through his head.
