Dusty Sunlight
I’ve lived alone in the barn for as long as I can remember. I always had it all to myself; the wide, cobwebby loft, the sunlit threshing floor, and the musty stall where the old tractor had been gathering dust for years. I could hunt for fat mice in the hay or listen to the singing of the swallows without being bothered.

Rusty Chains and Irises
The brown tomcat sat alone on the wooded ridge, looking out over the forest. Lighting flared in the distance, illuminating the dark sky with blue light. Wolfsight bowed his head and closed his eyes tiredly. He had been waiting for his half-claw, Ivy, to return. She had left to fetch something nearly twenty minutes ago.
