For Jackson
“We do not need a damn dog!” I exclaimed for what seems like the thousandth time. This conversation had been a topic of my wife’s for awhile, and I understand. Our youngest was scared of dogs, even little ones, since she was barely walking. But getting tackled by a Great Dane and a Saint Bernard tends to be traumatic to a toddler. So if we got a dog, a small dog, maybe daily exposure would help with her fear.

The Scion
Stephanie Bennett was all nerves as she paced through her living room shooting glances every so often at the clock. The past several months had all snowballed and made everything difficult. Her husband had begun the process to gain sole custody of their daughter, Yeardley. She had been written up at work for constantly being late or having to leave early. She understood this because after all, it was the truth. However, she had spoken to her boss about her circumstances, or more accurately her child’s circumstances, in a one to one meeting two months ago. This put the idea in her head that they were just looking for an excuse to let someone go. Maybe there was a planned downsizing and they’re looking for people who stick out to make layoffs easier. Whatever. When it comes to her family, her child especially, everything else came second. Yeardley’s emotions had been erratic, unpredictable, and at times close to uncontrollable. Yeardley had been acting out more in school the past few weeks. She had started biting people, spitting, scratching, even cursing. It was as if her daughter was being replaced by some sort of doppelgänger. Only this doppelgänger, were that the case, was vicious, vindictive, cold, and mean. Stephanie had gone to 10 various professionals all of whom were completely flummoxed.

Legend of Isherfree
It is a lovely Spring day in the realm of Isherfree. It was said that Isherfree is where the colors had been born eons ago when the world didn’t sparkle. Some believe that to this day, because no matter where you would travel, Isherfree always seemed to be more vibrant than the surrounding lands, even at night. When the moonlight hits the flowers and the trees, it produces an iridescent shimmer like if one would visualize dreams. It was truly magical and held just as much mystery to the inhabitants as do the outsiders or passers by.

Humanity Must Endure
Sunday, May 16, 2032 - 2:45 a.m. The night was purposefully quiet, the way that Hannah Van Horn needed it to be. All things considered, she’d rather have a fan on and her music playlist on in the background, but the time of those luxuries had gone. In the past four years, much about life as they knew it had all but dried up completely for her and her new family.

The Package
When Neville Brannig regained consciousness, his location was unknown. The walls were off-color, things were blurry, and his head felt like it was being weighed down by a bowling ball. He raised his hand to his head and felt some sort of fabric encasing his head like a rugby helmet.
