Morning Victory
Life is all about the little victories. Lets think about this, all of the things we do are sprinkled with little victories. Whether its getting a cup of coffee in the morning or the air is remarkably fresh. Its the little victories that keep us going with our lives. If we didn't have them we might fall into a season of despair. Some of our time we even have phrases to describe these seasons, terms such as “seasonal depression” or a “dark period.” I think that these terms come into play when we lose sight of all of the little victories that our lives are filled with. I challenge the people around me to keep your eyes vigilant for the little victories you can have every day. Once we can open our eyes to the little things our days might just become a little brighter. This can then bring all of our days to become like the first day of spring. Every time we walk out the door, smell the air, look for the colors of the world, and always remember to smell the roses.

The Fierce and The Final
When the term “aerial artist” comes to mind you might not think that Gabby Douglas fits that category. You might find a more apt description to be within the confines of a competitive gymnast. However, she is much much more than just a gymnastics competitor. The gravity defying movements that Gabby was able to achieve is nothing short of modern art. The ability to navigate the atmospheric conditions of a raucous crowd over seas or on her home stage have become legendary. A pioneer for African American women, the first winner of not only the team gold, but also the all around gold. Let that sink in, the first African American woman to win the gymnastics all around competition on the stage that is the pinnacle of the sport, The Olympic Games. With the ability to move against gravity that comes once in a lifetime her talents have tickled the imaginations of young aspiring black gymnasts of the past, present, and future. Gabby Douglas paved the way for future generations such as Simone Biles, regarded at the time as the heiress apparent.

Little Black Book
He is finally home. Our lovely little studio apartment off the main strip. Not much to behold, but the character is unquestionable. Laden with spider plants and Himalayan salt crystals interlaced within the random kitschy tapestries. Something is different tonight thought, he comes home later than usual with an ominous heaviness surrounding his being. His aura is cluttered and chaotic. I can feel the air is heavy and his mind is full. Sighs and heavy breathing give way to tears which in turn carve a path down his face to a ravine of regret. Deep circles under the eyes tell a story of a thousand lifetimes, lived and died, all in a night. I am ready to receive him, ready to have his soul poured into me. The bath water is drawn and the candles are lit. A subtle scent of spruce and cinnamon permeate the heavy atmosphere of our oasis. The sobs begin to echo through the dense air of our once light and playful abode. Kyler was a beautiful and playful soul that always knew he was destined for something magnanimous. I have been his keeper for the last year since he acquired me. I knew it was love at first sight when I saw his gaze rested on me with a softness that caressed my very being. Since that moment we have become inseparable.
