Weird Weekday Movies: 'Bubba Ho-Tep,' the Bruce Campbell Mummy Movie You Need to See This Year!
Welcome back to weird weekday movies, the home of movies that are so bizarre they have to be good surely? This week's entry definitely is one of the better ones in my humble opinion. Fan favorite #BruceCampbell suits up as the one, the only Elvis Presley and has to fight for his retirement against an ancient mummy that has come for his soul in Bubba Ho-Tep. If that doesn't leave you with an adrenaline rush then by God you shouldn't even have clicked this article. If you're a true cult movie fan however, keep scrolling..

My Day as a TV Extra on 'In Plain Sight' Starring Douglas Henshall
Well, as far as film extras gigs go some are good, some are bad and some are just like being on the front lines of war. My two and a half days as a background extra on ITV's hit 3-parter #InPlainSight was an absolute scream! I mean, I should have paid THEM afterward...Well, maybe not, but you get my drift. So what separated this one from all the others? Well you'll have to stick around for my filming breakdown.

Entries for the 15 Second Horror Challenge are Open for 2017... Get Involved!
They say third times a charm and we should definitely hope so, as the #15secondhorrorchallenge returns for it's third season this year. The brainchild of filmmaker Andrew Robinson, who felt inspired to create a network for up and coming horror directors and writers to showcase their collective works online. The 15-second challenge aims to freak YOU out in as little time as possible, not a bad idea in this busy old world we live in. Frankly, I LOVE the idea of watching a mini-horror anthology while sat in a coffee shop or on the train home (I never take the train but whatever). Read on and beware! You're in for a few shocks...

My First Time Being a TV Extra on 'The Crown'
Trying new things and getting out of your "comfort zone" is something everyone talks about but rarely actually does. Cut back to mid-2015 and I was on the look out for something to do that would dip my toe in the film world and break my cycle of procrastination. I've been a writing and directing my own short-films since my teens and am constantly working on my feature film debut script (2017s the year baby!). However, I wanted to cut through all this and actually get onto a film set but wasn't sure how I could achieve it. It was then that I came across an advert on Facebook for "background extras" for a #perioddrama called #TheCrown filming near where I lived. After emailing my details I soon received a reply and the choice was made, I was going to be in a TV show....oh boy!

My Day as a 'Supporting Artist' on Starz 'Outlander' Season 2
#Outlander, one of the tent-pole shows currently showing on #Starz is a show steeped in rich Scottish history. I confess, however, I'd never heard of it until I joined a local talent agency offering background extras roles for tv and film in Scotland. This is something I'd never seriously considered but since I'm a You-tubing filmmaker by day and Movie-Pilot writer by night (or whenever the hell I can get to a keyboard) I figured what the hell! This opened up a chance to gain some much-needed experience on a real film set and getting paid to boot! Not bad for a sassenach like myself aye?

Lemmy vs Pinhead in 'Hellraiser/Motorhead' Crossover Video is Every Fan's Dream!
While the internet is awash with news on the upcoming Hellraiser sequel/reboot I'm more interested in checking out Hellraisers past, like the time Lemmy fought Pinhead. I can hear you saying what? When did this happen? Well, it was for promotion of Hellraiser III Hell On Earth back in 1992, Lemmy's band Motorhead did a song for the movie aptly titled Hellraiser. They naturally got to make a rock video to play on MTV and it just so happens they managed to get Doug Bradley to play his cenobite alter ego Pinhead.

Do You Love Horror? Then Come Get Some!
Summer is coming to an end and those dark, VERY dark, nights are starting to draw ever closer. Every horror fan loves this time of year as its the official season for celebrating all things evil and it usually culminates in horror movie binges on Halloween night. I love to do this regardless of the time of year and horror will ALWAYS be my go-to genre. So, I figure, why wait any longer? Check out some of my own terrifying short-films that (hopefully) will keep you up at night...

Stephen King's 'Cell' Premieres at Fright-Fest in the U.K.
Stephen King's latest adaptation CELL is set to premiere today on the BIG screen as part of the Horror Channel's Frightfest event here in the U.K. This is fantastic news for King fans as after more than 2 years of conflicting reports we're finally getting to see it. This, according to rumor, is down to studio interference that has held Cell back from debuting and left many (including the Fright-fest organizers) believing the film wouldn't get an official cinema release. Thankfully one of the stars of Cell kept fans up to date earlier in the year:

Why You'll Agree 15 Seconds Is the Right Length for a Horror Film Today
A horror movie's job, essentially, is to scare the audience by building up tension throughout its run-time and venting this tension at key points in the film. Most movies run somewhere between an hour and a half to two hours (unless you're Peter Jackson then all bets are off) giving enough time to really spin a story and get into the characters. However as a species we're heading into an era of ever decreasing attention spans and it seems those 'slow burning' horror films from the golden era are not being adopted by this new generation.

Love Cheesy Horror Movies? Then Check Out 1988's 'Ghosthouse' for a Dose of Nostalgia...
Remember the good old days when you used to stroll down to the video rental store and spend hours perusing the shelves looking for the right movie to take home that night?. I miss those times of 'discovering' new horror movies this way, today it's all pages and pages of descriptions plastered across Netflix or some such streaming site. More convenient sure but some of the magic has been lost forever...
