Kidnapped to a New World
Chapter 1 Nobody can hear a scream in the vacuum of space, or so they say. I’m almost certain that the guy taking me through what I can only think must be a wormhole disagrees. At almost 50, I can’t understand what anyone would be taking me for but I started with just yelling threats about tearing off his genitals anyway. When I entered the blackness, my sounds could only be called shriek's at decimals I didn’t even know I could make. I’m not sure what dance I’m at but my stomach is now taking the lead because we are on the other side and my insides feel like they have turned inside out. I throw up and the man next to me says something that I have no idea what language it is in so I just stare at him confused then continue vomiting. I can’t even take in my surroundings fully but I hear a bustling of people, almost like we’re in an airport. He bends down and shoves something into the back of my neck. Great so now my neck hurts and I’m here puking my guts out in front of some weird guy who has kidnapped me. He speaks again but this time I can understand him “this translator will make things easier, you will be able to read and understand a multitude of languages and hopefully stop the wretched noise that keeps coming out of your mouth, you’re an embarrassment in the transport station”. He looks at me absolutely discussed but whatever dude you kidnapped me if you get chunks on your shoes, so totally your fault. “I have been ordered to retrieve females from your planet for breeding. I will take you to the stocks now that you seem done emptying your stomach of whatever vile food you humans eat”. Uh, wait what the fuck! I am not a dog who can be bred plus I’m not exactly what you’d call a spring chicken for having babies, this does not sound good. I realize that I have to keep my head if I’m going to get away from this guy. I act like I’m going to throw up again to buy some time. When he turns away I see a crowd of people, they look very similar to humans but like a perfect human almost angelic with a slight glow. While I was pretending to vomit, I picked up a piece of paper and threw it at the head of a guy in the crowd. The guy takes the bait and thinks someone being him hit him. Now to my surprise this guy turns red, not in the human way in the what the hell is going on this guy is fire engine red kinda way. Smoke starts coming from his ears and nose and he takes the guy behind him and flings him through a window. This is the distraction I need. Air starts being sucked out of the window, things start flying around, and people start screaming. This is my chance for an escape so I take it. I ran to the first thing that looked similar to the wormhole I entered in and dove into the blackness.

The Runaway Train
Wow this dream I’m having seems so real, I swear I even feel like I’m moving. “Tickets, Tickets” I hear someone yell. I crank open one eye, “What the hell, where am I?” I say out loud. A little old woman next to me swats my arm “That’s not appropriate language for a lady”. She’s dressed in some sort of get up that looks like it comes from the 1800’s. I turn to her and say “Okay next time I’ll say what the fuck, where am I?”. The look on her face as she got up and left was priceless. Before I had time to enjoy my own humor, I heard a person yell for tickets again. Oof, okay Brenda what did I drink, who did I go with, and why am I on a train? I heard the ticket person yelling closer so I decided I might need to move to another car to buy myself sometime to figure out what was going on. As I walked to the door between cars I looked around. In this car I have a bunch of old bitties. Some of them look like they walked right out of a mid century film like that one we’ve all seen with the girl trying to get a husband because that’s like her only job. I spot the chick who was sitting next to me earlier and decide to bother her again. “Hey girl, what’s poppin? I’m thinking of jumping this car for the next one. You want to come with me and see if we can get into some trouble?”. Her repulsion is almost so thick you can cut it with a knife. I decided to bend in and give her a kiss on the cheek. Before I can gleam over how much I’m irritating her, flames shoot up from her hand and burnt my arm. “Wait, what was that?” Her face turns a bright shade of red and she says “I have held restraint because I am waiting for judgment but next time I will burn your face off”. Now in a normal scene I’d throat punch this bitch but with flames coming from who knows where I decided it was in my best interest to walk and get to the next car.

Education: We Need Change Not Just a Band-Aid
For years the public education system has failed to keep students testing at grade level. Let’s be serious these tests are really of the most basic level in most cases and kids aren’t making the cut. It’s not because teachers are teaching and it’s not because kids aren’t in school it’s because the education system has been putting Band-Aids on the problems within education for so long you can’t even see the basic design anymore. These Band-Aids have been layered upon other Band-Aids making it a rickety structure that’s just waiting to tumble over. To me the answer is simple, tear down the structure and rebuild with what works.

Education: Schools What’s the Truth About Expectations?
2020 and 2021 have been challenging years in education for students, parents, and teachers alike. Parents want their student’s mental health, socialization, and in person education to aid them in growing into adulthood. Students want socialization, some appreciate the learning, but most really just want to see other kids and be with their peers. Teachers for the most part want to educate the whole child and see the buds of knowledge begin to grow from their facilitation. Unfortunately each year this has become more and more difficult for everyone. Another unfortunate fact is that parents have no real idea what is going on in schools. It is often sheltered from the media. Teachers are told not to report to the media or tell parents the full story for fear of violating privacy acts. Teachers are bullied by administrators or district leaders to not report or they will be pushed out of their field or have legal charges brought against them.

The Woman of the Cabin
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. From a distance a group of college students hiking their way through the Turkish woods as part of their European summer trip saw the flame. “Look at that” said Olivia “It’s colder than we thought here, our tent is busted, and bugs have bitten me in places I don’t want to explain let’s see if we can stay there tonight”. Ivan, Jared, and Silvia all nodded and began walking to the light.
