Just Outside the Window
Greta fidgeted with her own withered hands, anxiously stroking the phantom of a now-absent ring on her left hand. She glanced about rapidly, so rapidly, that her neck was likely in danger of becoming sprained. Suddenly, she gasped and shouted in an inaudible language. She groaned and screeched, rocking back and forth in her wheelchair. There was another shout and the poor, frail woman began pointing insistently in front of her, just outside the window.

Just Plain Disaster
Dear readers, please be warned that this story may cause you secondhand embarrassment. You may find yourself awake at three in the morning, reflecting on why the forces of the universe allowed you to be such a disaster of a human being. Or maybe that’s just me. Memories of Rain
I stared into the mirror with intense concentration. I knew I shouldn’t show too much emotion, not yet. I shook my hands out nervously and squinted harder. Three deep breaths. Foundation. Blush. A little mascara. And lipstick. Deep maroon lipstick. Unlike everyone else in my life, you love that color. My mom hates it. My dad hates it. My brother hates it. I think my cat even hates it. She hisses at me every time I wear it. But you love it. I think you love it because you know I love it.

Lost and Found
I’ve always liked the idea that some items have a special place, somewhere they really belong. Perhaps it’s a romantic notion, to believe that everything that exists has some important purpose, but the thought has always shaped how I see the world. I go through each day, trying to connect the dots, to discover hidden meanings in the ordinary. Sometimes, the connections are pretty obscure, maybe even far-fetched, but I can recall an interesting event a few years ago, where the connection was clear.
