Emily drags a sign laboriously along the pool deck to put it away for the night. The part which says ‘Pool Closed: Swim School Lessons Only’ comes away from the base which then thuds heavily onto her sodden shoe. Sighing, she tries to wrangle it back together as a couple in their swimsuits approach.

Saving Lives
I love my job because I get to teach kids how to enjoy being in the water. I love to swim and be in the water. The weightlessness can make it feel like dreams of flying. With your head underwater sound is pleasantly muted softened 'round the edges. As a child I spent hours in the water, floating, somersaulting, doing handstands. Swimming underwater, pretending to be a dolphin or mermaid and losing all sense of time in a pleasant aqua dream.

"What are you doing here?" His mother sounds surprised to find him. He's ensconced in the car already, awaiting the rest of his family. Game console, water bottle and oversized muppet toy (Animal) are all at the ready.

She dumps the last bag of her belongings in the bedroom and wanders into the kitchen, desperate for a cup of tea. There’s a single box labelled ‘kitchen stuff’ which she now rifles through in search of kettle and tea bags. Wrestling the tap on, eerie creaks and groans sound in the walls, long moments pass before water sputters from the tap. It’s increasingly obvious as to why the real estate agent had encouraged her to finalise the lease before having seen the apartment.
