Katie placed her paintbrush down into the paint stained wooden box that sat beside her after thoroughly cleaning it and let out a satisfied sigh. A portrait of a smiling family of four with an autumn backdrop done in oil paint still glistened in the light of the setting sun that streamed through the windows of her studio apartment. She felt completely satisfied with the finished piece and she couldn't wait to deliver it to the family that had commissioned her to do it.

"Oh my God, I love your dress!" The sound of a very excited, feminine voice had Stacy looking up from her smartphone to see a petite woman with bright blonde hair standing in front of her table. She was dressed in a flattering white jumpsuit that clung to her curvy figure and her eyes were hidden behind dark RayBan's.

What Has Come
Breathe, just breathe..... The antique gas mask seemed to be permanently fixed to my face as I moved silently through the thick layer of smoke that never went away. Blackened trees of towering heights stretched dead, gnarled limbs to the always gray sky, too stubborn to completely give up. The trees in this district reminded me so much of what was left of the human race.
