The Anxious Elephant in the Room
Congratulations, America, we have created the land of the free and the home of the anxious. Over 40 million Americans, ages 18 and older, suffer from the most diagnosed mental health illness, Anxiety. Why are we just accepting this? Why are we allowing this to happen? We allow this, we accept this because we think it is normal. Anxiety is an illness caused by many factors like genetics and disease. However, it is also caused by environment, trauma, and upbringing. I know being "stressed" and having anxiety are not the same thing. However, being stressed, experiencing regular stress can lead to Anxiety.

The light beyond
It was blinding. It was 3 a.m. and a light was shining through my bedroom window. I threw my legs out of the bed while using my right hand to block the blinding green light from my eyes. I opened the curtains to find the source, but the light was too bright. My room looked green. I pulled a pair of jeans on, threw a T-shirt over my head, and I scurried downstairs. After slipping on a pair of sneakers I ran out of my house towards the blinding light emanating from the woods beyond my property.

Bedtime Improv Stories
One of my favorite memories as a child was when my mother would tell me stories she made up. She would always include us children in the stories, but instead of using our real names, she would use our names backward. So the story included me (Nivek), my two siblings (Sirk and Mik), and our dog (EiloJ). These stories were usually set in the woods and would take us on an adventure. My mother loved stories, she has written poetry and recently wrote her first children's book. Stories were part of our lives.

The Sport of Politics.
Politics has morphed into sports. We root for our team instead of what's best for our country. Politics have mascots and uniforms (i.e. MAGA gear, ribbons, RESIST gear, confederate flags, etc.). We have commentators, 24-hour highlights, and televised events with play-by-play on Twitter.
