Using AI as a writing tool
A few weeks ago, I decided to challenge Chat GPT to write a novel. With Amazon cracking down on AI generated content and writers bemoaning having their work stored in the cloud being scrubbed and stolen by data miners, it’s definitely a controversial tool. After hearing about entire AI generated stories, I wanted to see just how good Chat GPT was at generating creative content.

The Sharp Stone Forest
I am two. Food is plentiful; Mother always knows the best spots for the juiciest berries and meatiest fish. I splash in the cool water on hot summer days and play with Brother, tugging at his ears as we roll and frolic. The river flows swiftly and high, and there is enough food for all who come to the shore.

Moving On
Rose observed the white colonial-style home. It looked like a very nice, pleasant home. Most homes in this neighborhood were. The lawn was well-manicured and watered, and it had views of the bay that were far grander than Rose's home. All the neighbors had similar landscaped and tended-to yards. Audis and Lincolns were parked on the street. The South Hill neighborhood was fairly posh. Jackie's old blue Geo Metro looked distinctly out-of-place on the street.

Deep Dive
I knew we were in trouble when the current pushed us further and further away from shore as we frantically paddled toward it. I knew we were in bigger trouble when a wave hit me just wrong, and the kayak flipped. The taste of seawater filled my mouth as I fought my way back to the surface of the icy water.

The Monster You Know
*Trigger Warning: domestic violence and rape* I pass the Thing in the Shadows every night I walk home from work. Everyone in town knows about the Thing in the Shadows, though you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone willing to talk about it. It mainly lives in the alley between the 7-Eleven and the head shop. No one is quite sure exactly what it looks like; it’s a tangle of formless dark, lanky, shifting shapes. Occasionally someone in the area vanishes, usually a street dealer or someone up to no good, and there will be whispers that the Thing in the Shadows took them. Usually, it’s not someone that anybody misses, and the gossip quickly moves on.

Hunted in the Dark
I should have listened to you, Jennifer. God, I wish I had listened. I don’t know if you’ll get this letter, but I’m sorry. You were absolutely right. I’m so sorry I didn’t believe you. I should have never gone past the old train overpass. I just wanted to see if the stories were true. It was stupid to come out here after midnight. If I could take it all back, I would in an instant.

The Haunted Library
We don’t tell our guests about the library. Here at Chateau de Livres Resort, we have a wide array of amenities. An Olympic-size lap pool, a world-class spa, a Michelin star restaurant, and of course the most luxurious guest rooms this side of the continental divide. Despite our name, though, the library in the basement is strictly off-limits to all but a few select staff.
