Mummy Cat
When you think of famous rivalries throughout history, you probably remember the epic ones, like Magic Johnson vs. Larry Bird, Kanye vs. Drake, Coke vs Pepsi or even most recently, Popeyes vs Chick Filet. Competition in the workplace often turns nasty, especially when a worker is consumed with envy and fueled by salacious jealousy. Even the most virtuous employees have compromised their integrity in order to achieve the most coveted honor being named employee of the month. I know this firsthand, for when I was in college, my vendetta against a fellow bartender was so extreme, it compelled me to commit foul play and choosing to eradicate my competition ,Tonya Harding style. Seemingly foolproof, except my Nancy wasn’t just some local celebrity, it was our beloved mascot and Chelsea’s Café most adored staff member… MUMMY CAT.

Without you
Grace sits at a table in a bleak kitchen that almost seems uninhabited. Her entire house is practically empty, lacking any signs of warmth or personality. Money is tight, and the constant struggle to make ends meet does not make her home décor a priority. A newspaper, stack of past due bills, and cut up credit cards scattered across the table paint a clear picture of her current financial situation. She walks to a cupboard and takes out a shoe box full of money and counts it. She is not pleased with its contents. She picks up the newspaper and looks through the want ads. She circles jobs from the general section but becomes very frustrated with the lack of choices. Her resume and skills are as bare as her cupboards.

I have never been described as your typical female. Growing up I played barbies and dress up with my girlfriends at sleepovers, but when I came home, I would grab my brothers He-man and Gi joe action figures and head over to my neighbor’s house and play battle royal with a group of boys. Having an older brother as my only sibling dictated what I was allowed to do after school every. So naturally I was forced to be his teammate in every backyard sport imageable and I freaking loved it. I was a better athlete than most boys my age and the only girl on an all-boys youth soccer team. I played in ditches, swam in creeks, caught tadpoles, let my hair turn green from chlorine in our pool because I was too lazy to wash it, everything the boys would do. However, I cherished pampering and transforming myself into a beautiful girl on special occasions. Something about wearing a fancy dress, putting on makeup and having your hair done all flawlessly, makes you elegant just like Cinderella. I loved looking pretty and being feminine. It was a complete contrast to the rough brut I was most of the time. Unfortunately, I cringed at the thought of a daily makeup or hair routine. Seemed pointless, dressing up should be just that, for when you are going somewhere relevant. My mother would ask me how I expected to find a boyfriend without ever putting any effort into my appearance. I would laugh and say to her “I am smart, funny, ridiculously fun, and even without makeup, I am absolutely adorable. They’ll find me”. And, without hesitation, I strongly believed it.

Mixed Drinks
On Ladies nights in New Orleans, hundreds of single women flock to infamous Bourbon Street Bars in search of free drinks and hopefully meeting Mr. Right. Cheap drinks tend to bring out even cheaper men also on the prowl to find Mrs. Right Now. Copious amounts of well brand liquid courage can help turn seemingly innocent flirtations into a night of drunken sloppy sex which is a guaranteed nasty hangover covered in regret. The long walk of shame is time to reflect on what happened and vow to never partake in such festivities at least until the following week. This is exactly what Patrick is counting on. Patrick is an attractive male in his early thirties, extremely charming and loves to take advantage of drunk girls. He calls himself the Bushwolfe. He knows ever bartender in the French Quarter but never hits the same one during the same week. He prides himself on how many virgins he has banged and is a local legend amongst all the frat houses at Tulane. He's the worst kind of predator because everyone loves him and no one can seem to resist him. Until tonight.
