Shapes into Legends
Ragged boots fell with crashes as loud as cymbals in the otherwise quiet forest. Morning dew slid from the leaves and dripped softly onto the face of a weather-beaten man. He rubbed the sleeve of his jacket over his forehead but it too was damp from many rainy nights.

A Rainbow of Gay Anthems That Show What Pride Sounds Like
Whether openly or otherwise, LGBT artists have been shaping popular music for over a century. As early as the 1890’s, jazz musicians, arrangers, and composers cloaked their identity in smooth rhythms and suggestive lyrics. Queer artists like Ma Rainey and Billie Holiday sang about encounters with the same sex all the way back in the '30s. Billy Tipton, another prominent jazz musician at the time, was revealed as a transgender man after his death in 1989. These artists set the stage for pop music's love of the subversive, the androgynous, and the proudly authentic.

A Bird With a Funny Name or: How to Live with a Challenging Pet
Parrots make terrible pets. It makes sense if you look at their nature. In the wild many, like Macaws and Amazon Parrots, live in dense rainforests. When they want to find their friends or alert others to danger, they scream. They have to be loud for the sound to carry through the greenery - so they can scream very, very loud. Living in a rainforest also allows them to be messy. It’s easier to drop bits of their fruit to the forest floor and grab more off a nearby branch than meticulously eat every bit of their snack. Though it makes them seem wasteful, it’s a behavior that is important to the ecosystem, allowing for new plants on the floor to grow.

The meditative sensation of tuning out the outside world and the narration in my head had always seemed very far out of reach for me. I’ve struggled with anxiety and ADHD all my life and have a hard time simply relaxing and living in the moment. This became extremely overwhelming when I was in college. I was constantly stressed about one problem or another and had no idea how to manage it. So, I tried taking a yoga and meditation class. But when my instructor told me to clear my mind, I could never seem to stop myself from free falling through a stream of consciousness no matter how hard I tried.

The Nature of Good Deeds
What separates humans from other animals? How were creatures with small teeth, short claws, and thin hair able to dominate the world? What does it mean to be human? A religious person might answer ‘a soul’. A scientist might answer ‘tool use’. A philosopher might answer ‘rationality’.
