Mindbender
Some stories don’t work out the way they’re supposed to. As your humble narrator, it would give me no greater pleasure than to recount to you the epic battle of good versus evil that led up to the events I will now be passing on to you. However, our protagonist has made a few mistakes along the way. It would not be fair to her to divulge the rising actions she no longer has access to. I must tell her story as she remembers it, that is, without any recollection of events prior to this day: June 16, 2030. Our story begins on a train.

The Waiting Train
As Thomas Whitley slowly came to consciousness, he was immediately unsettled by the brightness of his surroundings. His eyelids fluttered open and closed, willing himself back into peaceful sleep and away from this disturbance. Though he couldn't remember exactly what he had dreamed, his mind faintly flashed images of a calm lake, the sun just behind distant mountains, painting the skies a soft gold.

Twisted
The cabin in the woods had been abandoned for years, but one night, a candle burned in the window. Miraculously, I’d found the cracked votive candle in one of the few kitchen drawers that had not been ransacked over the years, a fading image of Mary etched into the glass. I vaguely recall an image of the candle amongst the other tattered stuffed animals and half-dead bouquets displayed outside the cabin six years ago in memory of my twin sister.
