Fever Dream
I looked at the ad, unsure if my fever-addled brain was reading it right. "Wanted: Someone to infect me with the Covid 19 virus. Must be verified as sick, have paperwork verifying illness no older than two days from today's date, and be willing to allow me to spend time near you. Will pay five hundred dollars for eight hours in your company, contraction of virus notwithstanding. Please email me at," and their email address followed.

Gum Shoe Blues
Gum Shoe Blues I'd been working at this thrift store for about a week before I stumbled across the box. I say working, but it's more like volunteering. I'll save you the gory details, but needless to say that I screwed up after a night of drinking and ran into a bus stop with my car. Thankfully it was three am. There was no one in it, and the judge decided not to ruin my life over a mistake. He gave me community service and told me that it better never happen again. This was ideal since, as a college student, I don't have a lot of money. I also couldn't afford to get kicked out of college for going to jail either. So, with thirty-six weeks of community service to serve, I sat about working for my local thrift store, Charlies Second Chances.

Moon Child
Moon Child Grandpa and I spent a few nights in the woods after the incident with the bottle tree. As good as I had felt the night after, my legs weren't quite up for a hike back out again just yet. So, we spent two nights in the woods while I recovered.

The Bottle Tree
It's been a rough couple of days at Grandpa's House. As summer creeps across the land, the rains have been heavier than usual this season. It seems like the grass needs cutting every weekend, and this weekend it looked more like hay than grass. It was my own fault. Grandpa and I have been busy with the Flea Market stall lately, and the house looks pretty shabby because of it. One Sunday morning, I took it upon myself to get the house and the yard in order.

The Eulogy
Frank sat on the front row as the people filed into the little church. The tears ran nakedly down his face as the cheap organ played baptist hymns off-key in the background. Somehow this infuriated him. He had paid a lot of money for his wife's funeral, and the least they could have done was tune the organ before the service. It wasn't even that it was severely out of tune, only slightly out of true, but it was just enough to make the discords jangle against his frayed nerves. Derrik, his son, didn't even seem to notice. He just sat beside him, dutiful as ever, and held his father's hand as the sea of mourners wafted past.

Track 54.5
Driving a train sounds like pretty exciting work, right? It's really not. When you're taking your licensing course, you get a sense of excitement. You feel like your part of some long legacy of train conductors. You imagine yourself dodging train robbers or having to solve a murder mystery, meeting guests for drinking in the dining car as they ride the rails to California or Texas. In reality, most trains haul cargo these days.
