How Teeth Whitening Kits Work: A Step-by-Step Guide
What is teeth whitening? Teeth whitening is a cosmetic procedure used to remove stains on your teeth—especially yellow stains caused by coffee, tea, or tobacco use. While whitening your teeth is not a treatment for bad breath or gum disease, it can help you feel more confident by improving your smile. Many people choose to whiten their teeth as part of a cosmetic dentistry routine, but you should also keep in mind that it can be used as a form of self-defense when meeting with potential dates! Whitening your teeth isn’t a simple process. Professional whitening toothpastes are only about half as effective as teeth whitening kits. The rest of the work is done by light activated whitening gel. The gel absorbs into your teeth, lightens them, and then the whitening gel is rinsed away. Most whitening toothpastes are designed to be used every day for a few minutes at a time. This can’t be done for long periods of time because you’d wear down your teeth. Why are teeth whitening kits so much better than toothpastes? Teeth whitening kits consist of a teeth-whitening gel, a teeth-whitening mouth trays, and a remote controller. You place the mouth trays into your mouth and they sit in place while the gel is activated. The mouth tray contains a compartment that holds the gel. The remote controller has a built-in timer that controls how long you have the gel on your teeth. This remote control method is much more effective than toothpaste, which can be used too long and worn down your teeth. The remote control method also means that you can use the kit at your own pace.
