Thank You, Escape From Tarkov
(Intro) Escape From Tarkov releases as 1.0 on November 15th, 2025. Which is something a lot of us never really thought was going to happen. Recently, Nikita has said the game has officially gone gold, which means it is feature complete and ready to be delivered in a patch to come on that release date. Sometimes, it feels like just yesterday I played this game for the first time. I still have fond memories of my initial experiences and how obtuse and overwhelming the game was. Through the highs and lows, the good and the bad, the community has mostly stuck around and witnessed a lot of what this game has to offer. So many years; so many changes. Today, I wanted to just reflect on Tarkov. Both as a game, and what it has done for myself personally and what I hope it ends up doing once 1.0 goes live. Let’s be real, for anyone who’s played for a long time; we all know what to expect. It won’t be very different. Just some additional quests, a proper end game goal of escaping and some new gear for us to use. But, if I may and if you’ll indulge me, I want to put all the bad this game has to offer aside for just a moment or two, talk about the good, and nothing but it. A moment for the community and anyone who sees this video to just look back fondly at our time with this game and to share some of our greatest, most hilarious and genuinely positive experiences we had playing EFT. So, I would humbly request that you do the same once you’re done watching and please leave a comment down below talking about the good that Tarkov has done for you. Because EFT despite everything, is one of the best games I’ve ever played. And to that I say, thank you, Escape From Tarkov.

The Engine that Held Back Tarkov
(Intro) Did the engine BSG choose to create Tarkov ultimately ruin their ability to produce a high-quality gaming experience? It’s not surprising that Tarkov might be one of the most ambitious projects on the Unity engine. For a game that is almost a decade old in raw development time, their technical abilities and know how when it comes to creating a game on this engine have certainly improved over the years. From a much smaller studio with less experience, to a company that has actively changed the landscape of how many first-person shooters handle creating their games, Unity has been a topic of conversation over the years and whether or not it was the right call for EFT. I mean at this point it’s way too late to even consider switching, but today I wanted to kind of go back to the start and call attention to the benefits of Unity, what were some shortcomings that BSG ran into, and how this game might never reach its true potential because of the engine that was chosen.

Explaining Why Tarkov Might Not Feel Fresh Anymore
(Intro) Raise your hand in you think that Tarkov doesn’t feel fresh anymore. And when I say that I mainly refer to not having the feeling of excitement for opening the game up and playing it. It has become such a part of your gaming cycle that you just kind of open it and go about whatever you primarily find yourself doing inside the game. Or you find yourself staring at that play button in the client, before simply closing the whole thing and looking for something else to play. Now there’s a lot of reasons for why you might feel this way. The most obvious is that for many of us, we’ve just been playing for so long. Even if we take breaks or skip entire wipe cycles, when we do inevitably return to the game, not much has changed. We might’ve missed an event or two, some new quests, but nothing that was so impactful across the entire ecosystem that we feel bad for missing it, or that EFT feels like a new game somewhat. In the last couple of years, that feeling of stagnation has only magnified as the launch of the game gets closer. It feels as though the game has somewhat felt neglected in favor of getting 1.0 ready, which I somewhat understand. But it still sucks that even things like the hardcore wipe sanctioned by BSG didn’t land the way we all hoped it would. Other than time played, there are other reasons why the game doesn’t feel fresh or even exciting in the slightest. For those that are new or still get enjoyment out of the game, I’m glad you are still having fun, and I hope that doesn’t end for you anytime soon. But for everyone else, let’s have a conversation about why Tarkov just doesn’t hit the way it used to anymore.

The "Cod-ification" of Battlefield 6 is Ruining It
(Intro) Since its release, Battlefield 6 has proven to be a competent return to a series that has been missing for quite some time. 2042 did everything in its power to push people away, and even after they resolved many of the issues players had with the game years later, the damage was done. People assumed battlefield as a series was gone forever. But with this entry, even though it’s far from perfect, the bones and foundation are absolutely solid and a proper return to why people enjoy this franchise so much. And recently, with the release of season one, their take on a battle royale has also been added; free to play for anyone who would like to try it. And after owning the game and putting a little over thirty hours into it, I’ve been enjoying my time. And this battle royale has something for a lot of people too. However, even after just a few days, I already have noticed some issues that if not addressed properly or at all, will quickly spiral this mode and arguably the entire game out of control and create something that nobody wants. So today, let’s go over the battle royale mode, my general thoughts on it, the positives and negatives and then talk about season one as a whole package and why people are worried the “Cod-ification”of Battlefield 6 and how it’s potentially seeping its way into this game.

Tarkov’s Season One Update is Somehow Even Crazier
(Intro) For anyone who has looked at the brand-new season one battle pass for Tarkov Arena, is anyone else slightly concerned with what they are seeing? Not only in the contents of the pass itself, but how things are now being obtained by players. The tone feels much different from season zero where it was kind of just hey, here are some cool cosmetics and some crates you can unlock if you want to. But it didn’t feel like there was this pressure to grind the whole thing out. I guess the biggest upside was that the pass lasted for what, three months? It felt like a long time, so anyone who wanted to engage with it had plenty of time to do so. But with this new pass, we or at the very least I am unsure from what I’ve read online if it will go away come 1.0s launch or if it’s going to stick around for as long. But let’s get into now both the free and paid passes and see what about them creates this slippery slope that I think a lot of us expected, but not in the way it was implemented.

Arc Raiders Wasn't What I was Expecting
(Intro) Arc raiders is playable to the masses for the first time two weeks before its launch. And I have been excited to try this game for months now after seeing lots of footage from other players. Well, I’ve spent the weekend server slam playing the game, and to my unfortunate surprise, I don’t think this game is for me. It took me by surprise, well a lot of things about the game did. Some good and some bad. We’ll be briefly going over what this game gets right and then focusing more on what to me, from my personal experience, the game gets wrong and why I don’t see myself playing it when it fully launches. It feels weird to even say that; I thought this was going to be a no brainer purchase, but now, my feelings are very conflicted. Is it the game, or is it me?

Tarkov’s Softcore Patch is Floppy
(Intro) From one polar extreme to barely half of the other, BSG just released notes showcasing what they’re calling the softcore balancing for Tarkov. A new Jaeger quest combined with some mechanical changes across the game’s weight and movement systems, as well as new barters and flea market rules. We’ll be going over all of these and then having a conversation about what the heck is going on with this game recently and how some of the previous conversations we’ve had over the last couple of weeks, feel more vindicated about their existence. This game feels lost, empty and devoid of any soul. One of the weakest states I’ve seen EFT fall into, pretty much ever. But we’ll get into that in a few.

Tarkov’s Most Recent Arena Update is Wild
(Intro) The most recent patch to Arena, 3.4, is wild. Some of the largest changes to the balance of the game not only across the classes, but the very core fundamental mechanics of how Tarkov works as an FPS game. I was honestly taken aback by how unusual the changes are across the board. And this seemingly came out of nowhere. Did BSG tell us these kinds of changes were coming to Arena beforehand? For anyone who watched my video going over Tekken 8 season two and how insane that patch was and honestly still is after six months, this kind of feels like the Tarkov equivalent. Just throwing the game into chaos for the sake of… fun? It’s kind of hard to tell really. Is the game better off this way? Worse? That depends on who you ask. But let’s go over the changes, how drastic they actually are, and whether or not this is potentially a sign as to what EFT 1.0 could theoretically look like in about a months' time.

Do Tarkov’s Developers Understand Their Own Game?
(Intro) Do Tarkov’s developers, BSG, understand their own game? A rather loaded question, considering we are two months away from release, but it’s something that has been brewing in my head ever since we had the conversation about the vision of Tarkov and what they wanted the game to be in a perfect world, versus the reality of having constraints across the development cycle and not being able to execute on that vision for one reason or another. Over the course of EFTs life, there have been moments and patches that felt like they really got it; BSG understood the assignment and were actively working towards improving the game and getting us closer to that vision. And then there are other times and patches where we couldn’t have been further from that idea, and it all felt lost and hopeless for some time. This rather violent back and forth begs the question of at this point, with all the knowledge and experience BSG now has under their belt working on Tarkov, if they could start over and remake the game, how much different would it fare when compared to what we currently have. Would it be closer to their initial vision and mission statement for Tarkov? Or would the game be not much different than what we have right now? Let’s have a conversation about BSG and their understanding of Tarkov not only as a game that they are working on, but a product being sold to people who have been giving them feedback for almost a decade.

How Long Does Tarkov Have After 1.0?
(Intro) With the full release of Tarkov on the horizon, we’ve been doing quite a lot of reflection on the game and its history as of late. Going over all the different essentially versions of the game as the years went on, all the ups and downs, and the current state of affairs right before release. But one thing we have not mentioned much is what happens after 1.0 goes out. We can see the goal post; it’s literally right there. But what happens after we cross it? Does the game just end development and BSG moves onto the next project? Do they keep a smaller crew on in case there are any huge game breaking bugs or glitches? Or do they keep supporting the game with additional content, DLCs and expansions? At this point, as much as I am curious about what the game looks like come November, I am arguably more curious what the game looks like three, six, twelve months after launch. So, let’s have a conversation about the hypothetical plans for Tarkov post launch, where it can go, what might realistically happen and what’s next for Battle State Games when they decide it’s time to finally cease production on this game.

The Gaming Buzzword of 2025
(Intro) A lot of people across the gaming sphere have been using the word friction to describe a game that provides either a challenge or layers of complexity that makes the player feel uncomfortable. It’s an important aspect to many different games and genres that allows for growth and understanding of mechanics at the slight expense of the user experience, at least at the start. And lately, it feels as though many modern games have been doing their best to remove some points of contention that would create these friction moments. I’m hearing the word used a lot more these days from a variety of different creators in the space, so I wanted to dive a little into the word itself. Looking at some of the literal definitions, how these can apply to different video games and genres, where games get it right, wrong, and whether it’s good for companies to try and remove these contentious points. To put it short and snappy; if a game doesn’t have a learning process or at least doesn’t make you feel uncomfortable for a little while, it’s doing something wrong. Games should not optimize the fun out of them; there’s a beauty in the learning process.

Do Players Even Like Arena Existing?
(Intro) Do people actually like arena? I mean it’s kind of a dumb question to ask, but it’s something I’ve been thinking about ever since the start of this hardcore wipe and Ref was added back into the pool of available traders. The game has come quite a long way compared to when it first released and the absolute disaster it was. At least now we can build the kits we want to use with sone level of restriction that feels fair for the most part. But when looking at arena by itself objectively, it feels like it should exist and that there is some level of enjoyment to get out of the experience. Could it still use some tweaks, iterations and additions to fully flash the game out? Of course; all in due time, hopefully. But the experience of the game itself has been marred by it coexisting with EFT proper, and it feels as though that has soured the perception of Arena somewhat. So, let’s break arena down to its core components, look at the game both by itself and when paired with Tarkov proper and ask the question: do people both play and enjoy this game? And what else can we expect from arena as time goes on?
