The wind felt like sand grazing her skin as she fell. Down. It didn’t whistle, it roared a deep bass. A terrifying sound. There was a twisted type of beauty to it all, being weightless for a fleeting minute, flying. Yet flying downward ends in collision.

My Catahoula Saved My Life
I like to believe that my dog saved me from getting run over by a car. Now before you go grumbling, she was, in fact, the catalyst for my not being in the path of a rogue minivan that crashed into my house. Yet whether or not she had some sort of mystic premonition or just a hungry tummy can never be determined.

A Last, Lasting Memory
My most cherished moment with my Catahoula was her last. I lied my belly on the cold tile of the vet office, face to face with Roxy while she rested on her favorite blanket. I pressed my forehead to hers, holding her paws while a final drug injected into her vein. Her last, deep breaths brushed across my nose in a warm wash. I kissed her snout, tears falling to dance down her fur. Roxy's big eyes closed peacefully.
