So Many Doors
"Mommy?" a small boy's voice says behind her. She turns around quickly, looking around for the little boy, but all that is around her are the seven other girls. Each one is dressed in different phases of undress, some almost wearing nothing at all. The white light of the streetlamp burns down upon her. She looks down at her hands, seeing the burning cigarette almost completely burned down to the filter, and takes one last drag before tossing it into the wet pavement of the road.

So Many Doors
The Sad Tale of Evelyn Crumpett PROLOGUE: STEP THROUGH THE DOOR We go through life not really knowing what’s on the other side of it. We keep doing the same old thing like ants in a line. We see each other passing by, but all we do is meet eyes and move on. Why? Are we really that disconnected from each other that we’ve forgotten how to make real connections?
