The Heartless Farmer
The old barn sat a little way from a rundown farmhouse, where the farmer lived alone. Once upon a time, the farmer had been a happy man. The townsfolk had frequented his store for his fine produce, and he and his wife were welcomed and elevated at social gatherings the year round.

Devil’s Food
Black birds flew past the glass wall front of a chain cafe on a sleepy town high street outside West London. The noise of their wings was disconcerting, out of sync somehow with the hot, summer air. It set my teeth on edge, but I was the only one who seemed to notice. Background white-noise conversation went on, oblivious, only punctuated by the occasional laugh-out-loud or the clatter of spilling toys from the kids’ corner at the back.

Silver Collar
The burning crimson of sunset spread above me; the regal cloak of some long forgotten sky-father. Electric blue sands lay below, shimmering in the dying light of the day. They stretched far away to the horizon, seeming like long, lost oceans of forgotten memory, brooding with hidden strength, gently devouring the sinking sun.
