The detrimental impact of aesthetic norms on emotional wellness
What are beauty standards and where do they stem from? Beauty standards are cultural beliefs that influence social power and dictate how individuals should look to be socially accepted. These standards encompass physical features like facial appearance, skin, and body shape, and can be either innate or alterable. Terms like "attractive," "pretty," and "good looking" are used to describe adherence to these standards. It can be challenging to determine which features can be changed and which cannot. Not conforming to societal beauty standards by refusing to alter one's appearance is often viewed as a moral failure. For instance, wearing makeup is not a natural or biological choice, but rather influenced by current trends.

The oppressive nature of societal expectations surrounding life's significant milestones
The oppressive nature of societal expectations surrounding life's significant milestones. Society puts way too much pressure on how our life should be, the obligation to follow its due course plonks into the rat race and has a detrimental impact on the mental health of individuals. For example, if someone is unsure about his life plan he watched his friends settle down with partners after college while he remained single. He worried about getting into medical school and finding the right residency. Societal pressures dictate specific timelines for achieving milestones like graduating college, getting married, having children, and buying a house. However, these deadlines are often arbitrary and can change with advancements in technology, the economy, and societal norms. It is important to understand where these expectations come from and create personal milestones that are meaningful rather than clinging to outdated societal norms.

The reason behind my why
Time and tide wait for no one. Life is a sprinting race of the survival of the fittest, you have to hustle your way to the top. We all have heard this haven't we, while existence is over-commodified and hyper-fixated on the materialistic drawls we achieve and external praise that is showered upon us on striding on the contingencies of the timeline that is presented to us, we often forget living with intent and gratitude for all that we have and run in the rat race of proving our worth and accomplishing what we need to, essentially not even wanting to be a part of this glorified way of living, yet doing so to be validated and accepted as someone worthy. If you have been through this or are going through this, I want to remind you that you are not alone.
