The Great Lie
To say I’m sitting at a crossroads would make my mental state seem more emotionally drastic than it is: a blasé apathy would be a more suitable label. I am complicit in a lie, which I have had drilled into my mind for as long as I can remember, and one that I continued to tell myself. In short, it states that in this economy, the work you put in is directly proportional to the outcome, i.e. income. I can’t think of a great analogy, but the amount of resources invested versus the outcome would be like pouring in the best octane fuel into a gas tank but the results unfold as if coal was stuffed in the tank instead.

Black & Blue
Where to begin? When it comes to BLM--whether taken as ‘black’ or ‘blue’--I am an expert of neither. So whenever I bring up topics related to either, qualities of Impostor Syndrome make sure to gouge me with their talons the moment I feel any hesitation. But perhaps because I am neither black nor a police officer, I have an outsider’s perspective that could aid with impartiality? Or perhaps this is just hopeful, daft naïveté?

The American Dread
Another early morning rant, though this one is at 6:45 instead of the previous 5:00. Instead of carving my name into a metaphorical tree, I’m wielding my digital knife and stabbing it. Yet again I have learned another bite of historical information that not only changes my macroscopic outlook of the American culture, but also ripples down to my core, making me question some of the fundamentals of my being, commonly labeled ‘identity.’

On the Pursuit of Poverty
I thought the title had a nice ring to it, albeit nonsensical. Do you remember all those times of playing Monopoly, trying to roll the dice so as to miss integral properties, missing the free parking, and the “Go directly to jail: do not pass go; do not collect $200”? Me neither. Who plays Monopoly to lose? I’m not sure if this is relevant, but ‘monopoly’ is an oxymoron: “single-many.” Or is it? “[Only] one has many.”
