Ink Well
My favorite pen ran out of ink the other day—right in the middle of composing a letter to one of my family members. Thankfully, I had some refill cartridges readily available, so I was able to get the letter finished before my train of thought completely derailed. Then, I addressed, stamped, and delivered the letter to my local post office.

God-winks and Easter Lillys
Spring is in the air, and unlike the last one, Holy Week occurs somewhat later this year, so it is not as cold. In addition to weather, symbols of the season are all around us—especially in the stores filled with Easter décor, candy, chocolate, and everything needed for that Easter basket. Although not as popular as Christmas in the consumer market, it still draws many people into the spirit of giving. After all, who doesn’t like to have an excuse to eat more chocolate?

Chatter Gulls
“Get out of here! Go on! Shoo!” It was an all too familiar scene every…single…time…we prepared our lunch on the beach at St. George Island State Park in Florida. My mom would periodically take us there for the day. I never failed to see swarms of seagulls hovering overhead anytime people had food, because the gulls had been conditioned to people feeding them—even though it was prohibited.

The Spider Who Never Gave Up
No. No! No-no-no-no-NO! AAAAH! Aw man, this is getting ridiculous. I just want a normal day. ONE DAY—that’s all. I just want to relax and not have to rebuild everything over and over again, and again, and again, and—you guessed it—AGAIN! I can’t catch a break, so I have resolved to remain useful. I must do something to survive, but what kind of existence is this? I instinctively go through the same routine with the same result—back where it all started. I guess this is my lot in life. I can’t think of anything else to do, so I will do what I know I CAN do. I will begin again…this time, I will make it better. Now, I must focus on the task at hand.

The Story of Scoot
Over the course of my life, many folks have asked me where I got the name, “Scoot"/"Scooter.” It is a funny story honestly, and I wanted to explain it for all my friends and folks who take the time to read these writings. To put it simply, I got it from my dad when I was a newborn.

The Gift that Keeps on Giving
If you told me five years ago that I would one day lead two ukulele groups, I would not have believed you. I had only started playing the ukulele around December 2015. It started when I was visiting family and my sister let me play her guitar. I had not played since college, and the strings really hurt my hand. I thought to myself, “I need to find a nylon stringed guitar.” I eventually landed on a concert ukulele and purchased a blemished one I found on the internet at a discounted price. I taught myself and took to the instrument rather quickly. So thankful for the opportunity and gift of music, I had to pass it on and the groups were born. While there are many other facets of this journey, which were born out of a lean period of waiting between jobs and walking alongside my mother through what would be her two cancer battles, this one thing stands out: music touches the human spirit and brings people together for a greater purpose. This little musical instrument has been a good thing, which God used exponentially to encourage many people, especially me, through difficult times.
