Your words, they fall like rain on my spirit, unkind and cold, Jesting in shadows, they pierce my heart, a story untold. When slurs slip from your lips, they cut through the air, A term that wounds deeply, it's too much to bear. Your jests at my friends, at the essence of who they are, Mocking the pronouns they cherish, it leaves a scar.

Exchange
It barely took a week for me to question my decision in joining the exchange program. Sitting in a room that isn’t my own, listening to my crazy host mother scream at her daughter for the fifth time since I got here. I left my home, my so-called friends and my family for a chance to have an adventure of my own. And yet the only adventure I’ve had is trying to navigate my way through the airport by myself for the first time.

My Marigold
The way she commands a room has everyone in a ten mile radius enraptured. Her smile is as contagious as a yawn. Her eyes the color of freshly bloomed marigolds. I envy her, her beauty, her intelligence, her wit, she is as perfect as you could ever imagine. Until you look closer.
