Fizzled Sparks
There were once sincere words and shared feelings between us, though it seems impossible to remember now. What once could have been is now out of the question. We can try to place the blame, looking over it all with a fine tooth comb in some twisted hope to figure out who did what and how we should feel. Though it seems futile when we both have long ago lost any possible seeds of friendship that could have grown. We are left with a field of weeds and dried up soil that could never be mended. A crop of dust and dead plants is all that remains.

Breathe in. Breathe out. Taking it all one step at a time. I watch everyone around me effortlessly complete their daily tasks as I struggle to survive the day. Just keep going.

Surviving the Worst
It is never easy to shake the growing dread as the darkness rolls in. Where once I would have found refuge, I now only find pain. The saying goes that you cannot grow in comfort but I wasn't really planning on being thrown into a cavernous pit full of vipers in order to accomplish some personal growth. There were days that survival was the most I could do and the thought of ever getting out of the darkness I was trapped in was laughable. If I could even muster a laugh. I persisted, though. Every day was a challenge but as the days passed, I grew stronger and more resilient.

Jagged Edges
Some things start out fragile as soon as they're made. They require special care and sensitive handling in order to keep them from shattering. With such careful care required, it isn't a surprise that some times this can be too much to ask. Sometimes letting it all fall apart is easier than trying so hard to keep it together. And what happens if it does break? Is it always worth it to try and put each tiny shard back in place? Is the glue strong enough or will the cracks still show? Even if you try your hardest, you cannot fix it if it wants to stay broken.

Playing the Villain
Every good villain has a tragic backstory. Some chain of events that finally led them to snap. Some were dealt a trash hand in life while others truly tried to be great, only to be stomped into the ground until all they had left was determination and cynicism. I always admired villains who had to overcome. The ones who didn’t start out evil but simply adapted to survive what life threw at them. Maybe I related more than I knew. I think I’ve let enough time pass that I can finally begin my own journey.

I Think You're Done Now
Another notification. Another hate filled attempt to hurt me. It is 10pm on a Sunday and I check my phone after finishing a movie to see this. Ironically, the entire thing is gone by the time I open the app. No trace you were ever here except a lock screen notification. I often wonder what the point is for you. Are you seeking the adrenaline rush of a potential reaction? Are you hurting so badly that you need to see me hurt, too? Or are you just bored and hoping for some entertainment?

My Husband is Gone
My husband has been gone for just over a day now. I know we were fighting a lot and he had been acting different, but I still don’t want him gone. I love him with all I have. Even if we had problems. Even if he was having an affair. The days leading up to his absence were normal for the most part. In fact, they were the best days we had in a long while. We spent time together without bickering over some stupid thing and it felt like it used to. I really thought we were on the mend.

My Biggest Gaming Dream: The Legend of Zelda.....Literally
Most likely, you’ve heard about The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time at some point in your life. It is also highly probable that you’ve played the game itself in one of its various forms. If you’re like me, you’ve played it in all of those forms. It is regarded as one of the best and most influential games in the lives of many people due to its story and gameplay. But part of that story has left me wanting more.

Under the Bending Tree
Lara hated moving. It never seemed like she owned all that much but seeing the plethora of moving boxes in front of her, it was hard to imagine all this fitting into her small one-bedroom apartment back in the city. With her mom in the hospital, it was more important than ever for Lara to be closer. However, even with the decent salary she made at her graphic design job, homes in the area were impossible to afford. She tried every possible subdivision in town before finally finding a match. Nestled on the edge of the forest, far from the life in town, this old home was being sold for a steal. And Lara could see why. The home itself seemed as though someone had tried to tear it apart from the inside. Floorboards were half uprooted, there were holes in the ceiling, and it was clear the house had been neglected from the outside. In the yard, there were half filled holes every five or six feet. Lara was not pleased to find herself the new owner of this mess, but she knew a thing or two about home improvement and she was sure her mom had some reliable contractors she could call. Besides, the important thing was to be nearby for her mom.

Getting Out of My Own Way
New year, new me. How many times have I embraced some form or another of this phrase throughout the years? Every January feels like a new start, a fresh blank page in the notebook of life. Like clockwork, I take the proverbial pen to paper and begin writing my story anew, convinced it will all be different this year. But, like clockwork, I accidentally smudge the ink before I have gotten a few sentences deep into my new story. I forget the words I was so sure I would use to create my new reality. I am hit by a form of writer’s block that puts schoolwork procrastination to shame.

I Am Done Putting Out Your Fires
You light matches like its your hobby. Flicking them away carelessly. Some fizzle out into little piles of ash, harmless and unnoticed. Others start an uncontrollable blaze, taking down everything in its way. I imagine you must get some kind of sick pleasure out of these damaging fires. You stay to watch them burn and even stoke the flames. Perhaps the warmth of the flames is the only warmth you can find. I pitied you at first, but I have seen you reignite every fire that got put out. Rekindling the ashes desperate to find one more spark. Hoping for one last opportunity to be rescued.

Another season has ended. It's been a while. Do you ever think of me? You're on my mind more often than I expected you would be. The way we left things so open ended yet with an unspoken closing of the door. The lock silently turned. No going back to what we used to know.
