Peer support groups are a crucial part of recovery for those struggling with substance use disorders. As many as ten thousand New Jersey residents enter treatment every year, but most of them leave without a supportive home. While this number has decreased in recent years, it remains high. More than three thousand people died in New Jersey in 2019 from drug-related causes, an increase of 3% from last year.
