The birth of Voenix
It was a hot July in Toronto. I emerged out of the tube station into Spadina as swirls of piled up heat rose from the asphalt, even early in the morning. I was walking to my new teaching job. The school was in an old 1950s building wedged between glassy skyscrapers. The lift took me to the third floor and the doors opened and gave direct access to a large room, filled with computers and young people.

Why did you choose to study Computer Science? I was initially interested in Architecture, but then Web design was also one of my interests. That's what got me into Computer Science. Which, in turn, evolved into different programming languages. Through experience in the industry, it tied together with the back and front end (that would be the full-stack)

How did you end up becoming a software developer? Is that something you always wanted to do? No, I didn't. It was circumstantial because I was studying Physics, but I graduated at the time of the dot.com boom. Most of my friends from Uni went to work for IT. But it worked for me. It helped that we had to program using Fortran for some subjects such as Numerical Methods.

Closer Than Ever
I finally joined a book club during the lockdown, something I've wanted to do for too long. Anyway, that's how I found out about Jesmyn Ward and the book I'm currently reading, "Sing, Unburied, Sing." Before that, I was unaware of this African-American author from Mississippi. So I dived into Google for a bit and found that she has also won a couple of notable awards.
