A Funny Thing Happened to Me After Work the Other Day
I’m about to dust off a real old vaudevillian chestnut. A funny thing happened to me after work the other day… You always hear that line or some variation of it on TV or in movies whenever they bring out a hacky comedian—“A funny thing happened to me on the way over here…”, “A funny thing happened to me the other day…”—and it’s always followed by some really corny old joke that’s been done to death like, “A funny thing happened to me on my way here to tonight: a guy comes up to me and he says, ‘I haven’t had a bite in days!’ So I bit him!” or “A funny thing happened to me on the way here: a guy walks up to me and he says he hasn’t tasted food in over a month, so I says to him, ‘Don’t worry; it still tastes the same.’”

Martin Pappas
Martin Pappas was, by most accounts, a perfectly normal man. He had a normal face, a normal house, a normal car, a normal wife, and two exceedingly normal children. Like most normal men his age, he was an accountant. He worked for a normal firm in a normal office building in perfectly normal Downtown Evanston. Also like most normal men, he wasn’t happy. He wasn’t miserable, by any means, but he had a bit bigger of a dream than simply being an accountant. He wanted something more out of life.

Evolution of a Play: How to Write a Play for Play Fest - Version 1
Recently, I've been going through all the files in my laptop to see which things I can get rid of to make more space for new things. While doing so, I stumbled upon this particular one-act play I wrote in high school. Well, that's selling it a bit short. I didn't just discover this one particular play; I discovered five different versions of this play, all written over the course of two years! Anyway, I've reasoned that, since I never look at these scripts, nor do I intend to ever use any of them for anything later, they're all prime candidates for junking.
