Floridan summers always proved to be great endeavors of human endurance. Locals who had persisted through generations and grown accustomed to the peaking temperatures boasted a sense of pride in their region's climate. For Landon Cartwright, this was not the case. Though no Florida native, Landon had spent the last eight years in the sweltering state, having moved in from Richmond at the age of ten with his eleven-year-old sister. While his tolerance for the usual winter cold had certainly dropped since, not once did he ever feel accustomed to the baking saunas of summer. He despised the searing temperatures, as well as the dense humidity that trapped it all in.
