Lost Waves
"DANIEL"
That's the last thing I heard before I went under. My father had always told me, "Don't be a hero." But for her, she was more than just my hero. She was the air in my lungs. She was the light of my day. She brought color to my life. How can I call myself a man if I let the love of my life get bashed by such rogue waves without lifting a finger? The waves didn't take long to give me the same treatment as they did her. But who would I be if I gave in now? I pushed and pushed and pushed. Until I felt like I was on the verge of breaking. Until my lungs filled with water. Until the burning turned into numbness. Until the tears no longer flowed. Finally, my hand grasped hers. But why does she feel so cold? Why couldn't I have been the hero she was to me, even if only for a second?
