The Most Meaningful Gift
"Liam! Hurry up it's time to open your presents!" Liam's mother called out to Liam who was upstairs at the time. It was Liam's birthday, but he had been making himself scarce all day due to his utter dislike for birthdays or attention in general. It also did not help that this was his first birthday where his sister could not be here. Liam's older sister, Nicole, had protected Liam since he was little and she was the only member of the family that could lure Liam out of hiding to socialize with others.

Solitary Celebration
Ali never thought she would be spending her 21st birthday this way - alone and beaten. Only yesterday, over 100 people were planning to come to her birthday party on the beach. Everything happened so quickly that she hasn't had time to take it all in until now... sitting here on the beach by herself with only her chocolate birthday cake in front of her.

My Long Nights with Macklemore
One hour. When I was at my lowest mental health point in high school, I would listen to Macklemore for a minimum of one hour every single night. I don't think that they intended for "Neon Cathedral", "Otherside", and "Starting Over" to mean so much to a broken 16-year-old girl who didn't have a problem with alcohol or drugs, but it meant more to me than I ever could have expected. Alcohol and drugs weren't my demons, but I sure as hell had other ones. My demons were depression, anxiety, self-harm, disordered eating, guilt, and grief.

I Am Still Valid
I am a pansexual woman who has never had a serious relationship with anyone who doesn't identify as a male. I have had "talking" stages with individuals who identify as a gender other than male, but it never went past that stage. In my teenage years, this was mainly due to my fear of being out to people other than those in my small friend group. Currently, it is due to another reason.

The Suffocation of Private School
The misfit feeling was one I had experienced before, but not to the extent that exists in the world of private schools. It felt like the judgement began before I even stepped a foot inside the school as I was driven to school in vehicles that had no heat, no air, and were barely holding on while others were driven to school in the newest models of cars and some students arrived in their own personal Mustangs. The element of secret keeping was in full effect right away since it was highly frowned upon to discuss who received scholarships to attend the school and of course, I had received a scholarship because that was the only way I was able to attend a private school.
