His name is 2020
For most of this year, I've been in an abusive relationship. His name is 2020. 2019 and I had ended our slightly rocky relationship amicably but, on the first of this year, 2020 came in no holds barred hitting me in the heart with the passing of my father. That's ok. One smack at the start of the year. A few weeks later he slapped me with losing my job. This is where things started to get a little messy. But I wasn't covering up bruises. Not yet. I was still fighting back. Then we all got sucker punched. Forced, for good reason, to stay in our homes for three months. I had grown accustomed to being on my own but this is where things get difficult. This is when 2020 decided to move in. This is where 2020 handed me the bottle and said "you think you have demons now?”

Realist
The optimist is fighting hard to get to the front of the line and I can hear him screaming: "Stop it! Be happy. You deserve to be happy! Stop overthinking and jump into this wave with your arms wide open. I'll be there with you. Let's just find out where this part of the sea takes us."

These Raging Waters
For a good chunk of time this year, I was lost. I hid it well, I think. But I was drifting at sea. Stranded on a buoy just trying to wait out the storms. There were moments of sunshine, but they never lasted. Until I decided to swim. Dove headfirst into the waves, terrified.

Instructions for the New Cat
And as I sit here with Andi curled up next to me I can’t help but think that we saved each other and that maybe...just maybe Jimi sent him a message. “It’s time. Take care of her. Kiss her forehead. Remind her every day that she is loved. Comfort her when she cries. Be her pillow and tissue when she needs you. Make her laugh. Her laugh is the most beautiful sound you will ever hear. And love the boy. He takes care of her in ways you can’t. But always, always be there for her. Even when it seems like she doesn’t need you. She does. And together you will mend. It’s time, my friend. Find a way.”
