He’d left the city behind him and with it, all of the past. With him, he carried only his backpack, wallet, and whatever he could stuff into an old suitcase that had been smushed into the trunk.

We were rather like an endless current of waves, constantly crashing into each other that inevitably would be pulled apart by an unknown and unstoppable force.
