Ends With a Bang
First Time Have you ever had one of those days where everything goes wrong? I mean, from the time you first get out of bed, till the time you wake up again the next morning, everything is really, really bad. You hit your toe getting out of bed. While jumping around, you step on your glasses. You burn your breakfast. You miss your bus. You’re robbed while walking to work. You’re fired for being late. You return home only to find an eviction notice on your door. You go to bed without dinner. You left your food cooking on the stove. Your house catches fire while you sleep. Murphy’s law. Everything that can go wrong, has gone wrong. This was not one of those days.

If You're Ever Down in Texas
It all started on a Saturday. I was working for Walgreens at the time. My shift started at 3 PM and ended at 11 PM. My flight time was 4 AM. Already tired at the beginning of my shift, I was ready to crawl into the bed by the time I got off. But as with most flights, they strongly suggested that we be at the airport 2 hours ahead of time. I still had to help my mother and aunt get their bags in the car. They had not finished packing. So, sleep had to take place on the airplane. (It didn’t happen.)

Self Destruct
“This ship will self-destruct in 60 seconds” The announcement was not given over a loudspeaker. It was only displayed on the personal screen of Captain Arnold Scott of the Starship Leviathan. The verbal notice came only through his earpiece. The enemy could not be allowed to know what was about to happen to them. The Viridistrum had invaded the ship 3 days ago. They quickly gained control of the ship. They believed that they had eliminated everyone. But the 250 members of the crew had already escaped. That includes Arnold's son, Jake. It was hard being apart from him but he knew that Jake’s life was in danger if he stayed. He had to let him go. He made him go.

The Finish Line
It was going to be a photo finish. 60 seconds to go. Dan Johnson and Dave O'Brien turned on the last leg of the race at the exact same time. They have been side by side the entire race. While still running, they both took their eyes off of the track only for a second, to look each other in the eyes. Dan smiled as he pulled slightly ahead of Dave. Dave, running on the outermost lane of the track, had to put forth a little more effort but he caught up with Dan. They were running neck and neck. Dave tried, but he could not pull ahead of Dan. He was not willing to settle for a tie.

Little Pigs
There are plenty of stories about pigs that are considered too small to make a real difference. They normally end up doing something great to get the attention that their small stature denied them. There was that one from a farm a little over a mile down the road. There, a pig named Baby avoids becoming dinner and aspires to become a sheepdog, or should I say a sheep pig. This was better than the other farm about a mile and a half in the other direction, where the pig did nothing at all. It was the spider who did all the work, but the pig became famous anyway. I have a pig story that you may not have heard before.

EXA
Over the course of 2 years, Andrew Minder, CEO of the Minder Corp, fired, or should I say let go of, laid off, 99 percent of his company’s entire workforce. On January 5, 2024, with an audience of only 15 people, Andrew flipped a switch, giving complete control of his company to AI. The computers turned on and robotic arms, legs, and wheels started to move. Although his bank account initially started to increase, his stock soon crashed. The world just wasn’t ready for AI to run a company.

A Fallen Acorn
There is an old but wise saying about the distance an acorn can fall from the mighty oak that dropped it. The truth is that oak trees don’t drop their acorns. They do not really fall. They are placed on the ground. The spot where it lands is picked in advance. It is a well-known fact that there are those who will carry the acorn to new places. For the most part, it is a nearby location, chosen by the Oak to honor the family line. Some, however, for more nefarious reasons, will take the acorn to far-off places, bringing harm to everything the Oak stands for. Everybody knows the extent a parent will go to protect their children. This is a story about exactly that.
