“Rod, I know I should have told you this a long time ago,” said Lucy, “and I know this is just about the worst time I could be telling you, since you’re leaving next week, but I’ve liked you for a long time—I mean really liked you—and I hate that you’re moving away. I think you’re the coolest and sweetest person I’ve ever met, and it would kill me if I couldn’t see you anymore. I just needed you to know that, and I hope we can still find a way to hang out.
