On Winning and Losing. Top Story - April 2024.
Recently, the pleasant surprise of placement on the Vocal Bonus Leaderboard sent me down a rabbit hole. Now, rabbit holes are a pretty common place for me to spend time, but I don't always feel the call to write about them. To be honest, the thought of sharing some of them mortifies me.

Maria's tears and screams had no effect on the Animal Control officers. Any adult onlooker would have realized the futility of her pleas, since the AI “brains” of her tormentors had no concept of empathy. Their singular goal was eliminating the problem in the most efficient way possible, before moving on to the next call stored in the Municipal Dispatching Database.

The Gift of Life. Content Warning.
Wes sat quietly, relieved that the crowd had dispersed and he could finally catch his breath. Hero status didn't appeal to him at all and the spotlight wasn't his friend. With the hard, cold concrete of the curb under his butt and the cool metal of the light pole against his face, he let the replay of the scene run through his mind.
